Freya Isaacs’ selected drawings observe numerous projects both recent and completed, spanning observational studies, paintings, and sketches in various mediums. Her observational works involve abstracted physical bodies and strange perspectives. Although several pieces belong to a number of short series, most of the pieces are individual, yet the abbreviated forms in her drawings all carry a similar disengagement with the viewer. Her work depicting human physical forms helms Isaacs’ developing practice. The 2022 work in ink titled ‘The Men’ offers an undeniable yet uncanny interpretation of the human form, which simultaneously deals with both a quiet confidence and an intimidating anonymity. Through her persistent exploration of the body, her subjects seem to hardly tolerate the presence of the viewer, both detached from attention yet demanding to be seen.
